The first thing you need to know about the Bible is that it
is
relevant to you and your life.
The Bible was written “to teach his
people how to live – how to act in every circumstance, for he
wanted
them to be understanding, just and fair in everything they did. ‘I want
to make the simple-minded wise!’ he said. ‘I want to warn young men
about some problems they will face. I want those already wise to become
the wiser and become leaders by exploring the depths of meaning in
these nuggets of truth’” (Proverbs 1:2-6).
You need to know what the Psalmist said, “Your word is a lamp for my
feet and a light for my path. (Psalm
119:105). Without God's words, you are stumbling along a dark
path!
You need to know the Bible is the most valuable book ever
written to
every generation.
The Bible shows us who God is, His character and His
Son. It is God’s revelation to man
showing him how to live today and
how to gain eternal life in the future. It also reveals what to
avoid
that will cause pain, suffering, chaos, and confusion. It lays out
history, explains what works and what doesn’t work today and it tells
us what is going to happen in the future. It’s a book that gives man
hope and comfort in his darkest hours.
You need to know that the Bible is reliable and trustworthy.
“History,
archaeology, and even science continue to lend credibility to the
Bible’s claims about itself. That means there is more and more
proof every day that the Bible is true!
The Bible is unique and doesn’t claim to be just an ordinary book. It
is a collection of 66 different books – 39 in the Old Testament and 27
in the New Testament. It was written by more than 40 different people
in three different languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. The writers
include peasants, fishermen, doctors, scholars, tax collectors,
politicians, philosophers, and kings. But the Bible is much more than
all of this. It reveals God and how we
can know Him.
You need to know the value of memorizing portions of the
Bible.
“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin
against you. (Psalm
119:11).
And you also need to know the importance of personal Bible
Study.
“Work hard so God can approve you. Be a good worker, one who does not
need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15). By studying the Bible, you
allow God to speak to you and teach you the things that he wants you to
know. "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us
what is true
and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us
out and teaches us to do what is right." (2
Timothy 3:16).
